K\u00fchn studierte zun\u00e4chst Naturwissenschaften und Medizin in Leipzig, Berlin und Freiburg. Aus gesundheitlichen Gr\u00fcnden wurde ihm als Studienort Innsbruck nahe gelegt, wo er seine Ausbildung zum Mediziner fortsetzte, bald aber das Studium abbrach. Sein Interesse galt der Fotografie, das er mit finanzieller Unterst\u00fctzung seines Vaters ausbauen konnte. 1904 kam er in Wien in Kontakt mit Hans Watzek und Hugo Henneberg, die an Gummidrucken experimentierten. Auf der Internationalen Ausstellung f\u00fcr Amateur-Photographie zeigte K\u00fchn in Berlin seine Arbeiten, die zum Ausstellungsmagneten avancierten. K\u00fchn entwickelte einen besonderen Zugang zur Fotografie, er arbeitete am Zur\u00fccknehmen des Bildausschnitts und an der feinen Abstufung der Tonwerte zwischen Hell und Dunkel. Seine Kunst war auf Ausstellungen in Dresden, Berlin, Wien, Rom und in den USA gefragt.<\/p>\n<p>\u00dcber Alfred Stieglitz lernte K\u00fchn 1907 die von den Gebr\u00fcdern Lumi\u00e8re in Paris entwickelten Autochromplatten kennen. Mit diesen konnte ein Farbpositiv mit einer einzigen Aufnahme erzeugt werden. Neben dem Piktorialisten Stieglitz arbeiteten Edward Steichen, Frank Eugene und eben K\u00fchn an ersten Experimenten. Noch im selben Jahr brachte Stieglitz das Ergebnis des Tutzinger Arbeitstreffens zu einer Ausstellung nach New York. Die Wirkung der Glasplatten kam der eines pointilistischen Werks sehr nahe.<\/p>\n<p>Gerade in den Jahren vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg laborierte K\u00fchn in Tirol, fing dabei Motive der Landschaft und Portr\u00e4ts ein. H\u00e4ufig sind es Kinderbildnisse, nicht selten im verlorenen Profil, die eigene Familie. In der Kombination der Kleiderfarben schuf er reduzierte Werke, die die Prinzipien der Neuen Sachlichkeit vorwegnahmen. Die Komposition verlangte nach gestellten Motiven, nach ausgefeilten Farbstudien. Man spricht von einer Reduktion auf das Wesentliche, von subtiler Lichtgebung, von einem ausgewogenen Gesp\u00fcr f\u00fcr Ausschnitte. Die Unsch\u00e4rfe kam als stilbildendes Mittel zum Tragen. K\u00fchn selbst definierte Fotografie wie folgt: \u201eUnter Photographie versteht man eine in l\u00fcckenlos ineinander flie\u00dfenden T\u00f6nen ausgedr\u00fcckte bildliche Darstellung, hervorgerufen oder vermittelt durch Wirkungen des Lichts\u201c. Die k\u00fcnstlerische Besch\u00e4ftigung mit der Fotografie hielt bis zum Ersten Weltkrieg an. In den Jahren danach griff er zur Feder. Er verfasste B\u00fccher und zahlreiche Fachartikel und gab sich der technischen Forschung der Fotografie hin.<\/p>\n<p>K\u00fchn kann wirklich als Pionier der k\u00fcnstlerischen Farbfotografie bezeichnet werden. Die au\u00dfergew\u00f6hnliche Bedeutung seiner Farbfotografie ist im internationalen Kontext sehr hoch.<\/p>\n<p>Die Ausstellung bietet die M\u00f6glichkeit, in ann\u00e4hernd 40 Autochromen und farbechten Wiedergaben den Anf\u00e4ngen der Farbfotografie in Tirol nachzusp\u00fcren. Die Farbautochrome werden auch erstmals in S\u00fcdtirol gezeigt. Dies ist nur dank der engen Zusammenarbeit mit der \u00d6sterreichischen Nationalbibliothek m\u00f6glich, die fast zwei Drittel des Autochrome-Bestandes Heinrich K\u00fchns besitzt.<\/p>\n<p>Zur Ausstellung entsteht ein Film von Markus Heltschl mit dem selben Titel.<\/p>\n<p>Mit freundlicher Unterst\u00fctzung der \u00d6sterreichischen Nationalbibliothek, der Kulturstiftung des Bundes, der Robert Musil und der Erste Weltkrieg.<\/h2><div class='av-subheading av-subheading_below'><p>09.08.2014 \u2013 30.11.2014<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"special-heading-border\"><div class=\"special-heading-inner-border\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><br \/>\n<section  class='av_textblock_section av-2jnaf4-e78b8806c1528cd195671375f2415ca1 '   itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/CreativeWork\" ><div class='avia_textblock'  itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Im Sommer 1914 wurde Robert Musil wie viele Schriftsteller und Intellektuelle vom \u00bbMobilisierungserlebnis\u00ab mitgerissen. Er meldete sich freiwillig zum Kriegsdienst. Stationiert an der \u00f6sterreichisch-italienischen Grenze, nahm er an milit\u00e4rischen Eins\u00e4tzen in S\u00fcdtirol und am Isonzo teil. Sp\u00e4ter arbeitete er als Redakteur f\u00fcr Milit\u00e4r-Zeitungen, 1916 zun\u00e4chst f\u00fcr die \u201eTiroler Soldaten-Zeitung\u201c in Bozen, 1918 f\u00fcr die \u201eHeimat\u201c im Kriegspressequartier in Wien.<\/p>\n<p>In der Ausstellung werden nicht nur die biografischen Stationen und historischen Hintergr\u00fcnde gezeigt, sondern auch, wie der Autor die eigene Kriegserfahrung im Werk verarbeitet hat. Neben verfremdeten und verdichteten Kriegsbildern in Musils Prosa geben Tageb\u00fccher und Briefe Einblicke in die Lebensbedingungen im Krieg.Auch K\u00fcnstler wurden zur Ausschm\u00fcckung der \u201eTiroler Soldaten-Zeitung\u201c geladen. Die Ausstellung in Schloss Tirol erweitert jene im M\u00fcnchner Literaturhaus gerade um diese Variante, die von Carl Kraus bearbeitet wurde: Innerhalb der \u201eLiterarischen Beilage\u201c arbeiteten als Illustratoren der Kriegspropaganda auch \u201eKriegsmaler\u201c und Fotografen mit. Insgesamt 45 K\u00fcnstler waren daran beteiligt. Herausragend bleiben Albin Egger-Lienz, Artur Nikodem, Hans Josef Weber-Tyrol, der geb\u00fcrtige Sarntaler Heinrich Told, der Brixner Josef Durst, der Oberinntaler Thomas Riss und der Trentiner Franz Ferdinand Rizzi. Die Bildmotive reichen von den Portr\u00e4ts der Milit\u00e4rf\u00fchrungsriege bis hin zu jenem des Bergf\u00fchrers Sepp Innerkofler, letzteres von Franz von Defregger. Der Alltag der Soldaten ist weiter Thema, Soldaten beim Abfassen der Heimatbriefe, Soldaten im Feld, oder einfach Landschaften. So hielt Rizzi die Kriegsschaupl\u00e4tze im Trentino fest und schuf eine Reihe von Soldatenportr\u00e4ts, skizzierte Feldmessen und Friedh\u00f6fe. Auch Josef Durst widmete sich verst\u00e4rkt dem Portr\u00e4tfach. Das Thema \u201eSkiwacht in den Dolomiten\u201c verbindet Kriegsdienst mit dem erst sp\u00e4ter popul\u00e4r gewordenen alpinen Sport. Der Erl\u00f6s von Ignaz Stolz\u2019 \u201eTiroler Soldatenmadonna\u201c kam der Kriegshilfe zugute.<\/p>\n<p>Zur Ausstellung erscheint ein Katalog und ein Faksimile der Erstausgabe \u201eDie Portugiesin\u201c mit einem Nachwort von Dr. Karl Corino.
