itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Seit Karl dem Gro\u00dfen war im Deutschen Reich der auf dem Vorbild des r\u00f6mischen Silberdenars beruhende Pfennig die g\u00e4ngige M\u00fcnzeinheit. Er wurde im Laufe der Zeit an verschiedenen Orten gepr\u00e4gt, mit teils unterschiedlichem M\u00fcnzwert. Dieser entspricht dem Metallwert: eine Reduzierung der M\u00fcnze in Gr\u00f6\u00dfe und Gewicht oder die Verwendung von unreinem oder mit niederwertigerem Kupfer legiertem Silber senkt den Wert.<\/p>\n<p>Die kleinste M\u00fcnzeinheit im Tiroler Raum war der Veroneser Pfennig oder Berner (Bern = alter deutscher Name f\u00fcr Verona), der auch in Tirol gepr\u00e4gt wurde.<\/p>\n<p>Im 13. Jh. wurde zus\u00e4tzlich zum Tauschhandel immer mehr M\u00fcnzgeld verwendet. Dies machte die Einf\u00fchrung von h\u00f6herwertigen M\u00fcnzen n\u00f6tig. Meinhard II. von Tirol-G\u00f6rz reagierte darauf mit der ersten Mehrpfennigm\u00fcnze des deutschen Sprachraumes. Die ab 1259 in Meran gepr\u00e4gten \u201eAdlergroschen\u201c mit einem Wert von achtzehn bis zwanzig Bernern zeigen auf einer Seite einen Adler, auf der anderen Seite ein Prankenkreuz.<\/p>\n<p>1274\/75 brachte Meinhard\u00a0II. neue \u201eMeinhardzwanziger\u201c in Umlauf. Sie \u00e4hneln den Adlergroschen (vgl. LMST Inv.-Nr. 702173): das eine Kreuz wird durch zwei \u00fcbereinanderliegende Prankenkreuze ersetzt, statt des kaiserlichen Reichsadlers wird erstmals der Tiroler Adler verwendet, und die Aufschrift nennt den M\u00fcnzherrn \u201eMEINARDVS COMES TIROL[is]\u201c (= Graf von Tirol). Nach dem Doppelkreuz wurde die M\u00fcnze auch \u201eKreuzer\u201c genannt. Ihr hoher Silberwert trug viel zu ihrem Ansehen bei.
