den M\u00fcnzherrn: \u201eCOMES TIROL[is]\u201d (lat. \u201eGraf von Tirol\u201c). Auf der anderen Seite sind ein die Umschrift teilendes Prankenkreuz und der Hinweis auf die M\u00fcnzst\u00e4tte \u201eDE MARANO\u201c (\u201evon Meran\u201c) zu sehen.<\/p>\n<p>Graf Meinhard II. von Tirol-G\u00f6rz begann ab 1259, in Meran Silberm\u00fcnzen zu pr\u00e4gen. Als M\u00fcnzbild w\u00e4hlte er einen Adler, wie er auch auf den Gold-Augustalen Kaiser Friedrich\u00a0II. zu sehen ist. Damit setzte er sich in die Nachfolge seiner angeheirateten staufisch-kaiserlichen Verwandtschaft.<\/p>\n<p>Die Meraner Adlergroschen waren achtzehn bis zwanzig Pfennige wert und sind die \u00e4ltesten Mehrpfennig-M\u00fcnzen des deutschen Sprachraums. Das Wort \u201eGroschen\u201c selbst ist abgeleitet von der lateinischen Bezeichnung f\u00fcr eine M\u00fcnze, die mehrere Pfennige wert ist: ein \u201egrossus denarius\u201c (= dicker Denar). Der auf dem Vorbild des r\u00f6mischen Silberdenars beruhende Pfennig war seit Karl dem Gro\u00dfen die g\u00e4ngige M\u00fcnzeinheit im Deutschen Reich. Der Wert entspricht dem Gewichtswert des verwendeten Metalls. Eine Reduzierung der M\u00fcnze in Gr\u00f6\u00dfe und Gewicht oder die Verwendung von unreinem oder mit niederwertigerem Kupfer legiertem Silber senkt den Wert.<\/p>\n<p>Adlergroschen wurden bis ins 14.
