Die Vorderseite zeigt den toten Christus am Kreuz h\u00e4ngend. An den Kreuzesenden sind Symbole der Evangelisten in das \u00fcber einen Holzkern angebrachte getriebene Kupferblech modelliert. Am obersten Kreuzende erscheint der Engel f\u00fcr Matth\u00e4us, der Markus-L\u00f6we ist am rechten Kreuzende platziert, das Symbol links am Kreuzesarm fehlt. Im unteren Bildfeld erhebt sich Adam aus seinem Grab. Er erinnert an die Kreuzlegende, wonach sich \u00fcber dem Grab Adams jener Baumstamm erhob, aus dem sp\u00e4ter das Kreuzesholz Christi geschlagen wurde. Adam steigt aus dem Grab und ahmt somit die Auferstehung Christi nach. Mit der Anastasis, der Auferstehung, hatte sich Christus in die Vorh\u00f6lle begeben und dort das Alte Testament erl\u00f6st.<\/p>\n<p>An der Verso-Seite nimmt die Darstellung Mariens den vertikalen Kreuzbalken ein. In den Tondi der Kreuzesenden finden sich wiederum die Evangelistensymbole, der Johannesadler im obersten Feld, Lukasstier und Markusl\u00f6we an den Enden des Querbalkens, der Matth\u00e4usengel im untersten Feld. Die plastische Ausformung des Kruzifixus erinnert noch an byzantinische Modelle. Auch der Typus der Maria in Orantenstellung mit zum Gebet ge\u00f6ffneten H\u00e4nden ist dem byzantinischen Kunstraum gel\u00e4ufig. Die R\u00fcckseite ist als Glorienseite ausgebildet: Das Bildnis Mariens umgeben blaue Glassteine, zahlreiche Glassteine waren in die ausgesparten \u00d6ffnungen eingesetzt und betonten so den
